Debbie has been a resident of Ballarat since 1997 and has recently returned after
residing in Tasmania for four years.
Debbie completed her Undergraduate Fine Arts Degree (drawing major) at The
University of Ballarat. She was the first student to complete an Honours Visual Arts
Degree at ACU Ballarat/Melbourne. In 2018, she completed the Graduate Diploma of
Ceramics at Federation University. She has been a sessional lecturer teaching,
drawing and 3 dimensional studies at Federation University and ACU Ballarat and
has worked as an art technician at a local secondary school.
She has been involved with community arts for many years including being a
founding member of Space 22 Artist Run Space, arts facilitator at the Art Gallery of
Ballarat, Flanagan Art Prize committee member and a workshop presenter for the
Tasmanian Ceramics Association.
Debbie’s art practice has primarily focused on drawing, including working with books
and other 3-dimensional objects. Over the last 8 years, she has been creating hand-
formed ceramic sculptures from porcelain. In recent times, she has combined her
drawing practice with her ceramic forms.
Debbie has been a finalist in several national drawing and ceramic awards and has
exhibited locally, nationally and internationally.
Debbie’s work is informed by the environment, mythology, and science, most
recently the microscopic forms found in zooplankton. Some of these works were
recently exhibited at the 7 th International Zooplankton Symposium in Hobart,
Tasmania.
