Chris Aspland is an abstract realist painter from the Surf Coast of Victoria.  She is representational in her expression of still life and portraiture to reflect the interconnected storylines within communities.

Her practice uses nostalgic archetypes from a bygone era that make social comment about the everyday lives and experiences of people in the community. Specifically, women in the domestic environment.

Her predominant use of oils and acrylics also evokes these feelings of nostalgia. She often combines these traditional media with collage and a limited pallet that similarly arouses sentimental connections.

The combination of abstraction and realism within her work highlights the ephemeral yet eternal quality of human connection.
